Considering I've checked in a few times does not mean I'm a fan..it's purely just been for convenience if a trains been cancelled.or something...or a quick impromptu drink after work.

This could be a nice pub, it's nicely decorated with comfy chairs and you don't have to pay 30p to use the toilets :)

However it being Manchester it really does attract the non savoury characters, especially when there is a football match on.

The bar offers your generic beer and wine at fairly steep prices...I came in here the other day and tried a mulled wine, which tasted like flat stale strongbow that had been shoved in the microwave. I was actually glad for once it was a half pint!

The staff are freindly and efficient , at the end of they day its not their fault its the way it is..unless they start establishing a strict dress code...and a body search..

Arriving in Manchester Piccadilly after watching my beloved Manchester City at John Smith's Stadium against Huddersfield Town, I strolled around Piccadilly Station's Upper Concourse looking for something to eat and my first stop was here at The Mayfield.

There is seating inside and on the "balcony" on the station.

I found the service to be really poor, I was waiting for a few minutes at the bar and I remained unacknowledged, it seemed understaffed and the staff who were working didn't seem to show much care for their job.

The menu was quite small, sadly due to long waits and poor staff I didn't get to ask about the gluten free selection.

It didn't seem the nicest place to eat inside anyway because the menus were a little sticky and it was a small menu and it didn't look the sort of place where you'd expect a decent meal based on the menus and the fact as you go inside, there didn't seem to be a plate in sight, just pint after pint after pint.

Even the drink selection was quite poor which is disappointing, I guess this is sadly just a typical travel station bar, whether that be an airport or a train station but it just is so poor with the selection of both food and drink, overall feel, cleanliness and service that I feel Mayfield sadly deserves a single one star.

Our last port of call after great days in Manchester.

After a day in Manchester's pubs this is always our last drop of before the train home.

Not a bad pub, great views over Piccadilly station foyer if you sit on the balcony. Free WiFi,free phone charging they have a selection of different phone chargers behind the bar ;)

    Beer ain't that bad.

Staff friendly enough and background music great.

Finding myself with a bit of time to kill whilst waiting for my train, I thought I'd venture up the escalator and check out The Mayfield (formerly The Balcony Bar) for a pre-holiday beer.

Although relatively busy (it was late afternoon on a Friday) there was no queuing at the bar and I was served almost instantly. Unfortunately, there was not much for me to choose from beer-wise, as the draughts were limited to the usual suspects of Guinness and Stella (to name but two). So I opted for a bottle of Peroni (£4.10) and duly necked it to get out of there asap.

That aside, there was plenty of seating (though pretty much all of the tables were occupied) and it was clean and spacious.

There are also a few tables on the front balcony so you can people-watch and try not to miss your train.

The Mayfield is not a bad little pub, very homely and lots of seating too! Even on the balcony above the station which is perfect for those people-watchers! The staff have always been lovely and the toilets are clean. However, this is the only place i have EVER paid £7.85 for one drink, and for the rest of my 'student life' it will be the last. If you're someone who is not bothered by this price then i highly recommended the Mayfield but if not, steer clear!
